Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has voiced strong support for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential return to the presidency, highlighting the transformative reforms Jonathan introduced during his tenure. Mohammed emphasized that Jonathan’s experience and leadership would be beneficial in addressing current national challenges.
Speaking in response to a call by a non-governmental organization urging him to consider a 2027 presidential bid, Governor Mohammed expressed willingness to take on a leadership role, but only if Jonathan chooses not to run.
“As long as Jonathan is around, I will not present myself for the leadership of this country unless he decides not to run,” Mohammed stated. He also pledged full support for Jonathan if he decides to contest, stressing that Jonathan’s inclusive governance style and focus on youth initiatives during his administration were commendable.
Mohammed also praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo, citing his contributions to telecommunications, agriculture, and infrastructure, particularly in the northeastern region.
In addressing recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Mohammed clarified that his remarks were intended as constructive advice to the Federal Government. He acknowledged the importance of leadership driven by knowledge and urged President Tinubu to address pressing issues to avoid potential electoral losses to the PDP in the future.
“We believe in rotation, and it is the South’s turn to produce the president for eight years, but they must earn it,” Mohammed concluded, underscoring the need for policies that effectively address the needs of the Nigerian populace.
