Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved a new minimum wage of ₦80,000 for state workers, effective from October 2024. The governor made the announcement on Thursday via his official X account, affirming his commitment to improving the welfare of the state’s workforce.
“I have just approved a minimum wage of ₦80,000 for Enugu workers, effective October 2024,” Mbah stated. “We appreciate the hard work and sacrifices of the state’s workforce and will continue to prioritize their welfare in line with our campaign promises. Tomorrow is here.”
Mbah’s announcement follows similar moves by other state governors. On Wednesday, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno also announced a ₦80,000 minimum wage for civil servants. Earlier in October, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu set the minimum wage for public sector workers at ₦85,000, followed by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara approving the same amount for civil servants in his state.
The adjustments come after President Bola Tinubu signed a bill into law in July 2024, raising the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
