The Federal Government has designated Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, as well as Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for New Year celebrations.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to all Nigerians, urging citizens to use the festive period to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the season represents.
“The Christmas season is a time for spiritual reflection and national renewal,” the minister noted. “As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences.”
He emphasized the importance of fostering harmony and strengthening family and community bonds during this period.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country, expressing confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration to usher in a better economy and improved living standards in 2025.
While wishing Nigerians a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged all citizens to remain dedicated to the peace, unity, and progress of the nation.
