The Labour Party (LP) National Executive Committee (NEC) has appointed Senator Usman Nenadi as Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary, pending the party’s upcoming national convention.
The appointments were part of resolutions reached at the statutory NEC meeting held Friday, where members approved a schedule for ward, local government, state, zonal, and national congresses.
The NEC mandated the party’s national secretariat to publish guidelines and timelines to ensure transparent internal elections.
The meeting was attended by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, the party’s only sitting governor.
Ajaero reiterated the party’s identity as a platform for the common man and warned against impostors claiming leadership without NLC’s backing.
Governor Otti stressed the need to restructure and rebrand the party to make it more effective. He said the statutory NEC was convened following a Supreme Court judgment affirming Nenadi as party chairman and urged the Abure-led faction to respect the ruling.
“The Labour Party is bigger than any individual or group,” Otti said. “It’s time to unite and build a strong foundation for the future.”
