The Lagos State Government has delivered 61 roads spanning 56.52 kilometres and five bridges within the past year as part of its continued drive to enhance connectivity and ease mobility across the state. The administration, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also revealed that 147 additional road and bridge projects are currently underway across various locations.
This was disclosed on Monday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, during a ministerial press briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, to commemorate the second year of Sanwo-Olu’s second term.
According to Daramola, the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering sustainable and impactful infrastructure despite economic headwinds. Since December 2024 alone, 33 roads have been commissioned, with many others under active construction or rehabilitation.
“The THEMES and THEMES+ Agenda has remained our blueprint. Under the Traffic Management and Transportation pillar, we have taken bold steps to improve road connectivity and elevate infrastructure standards,” Daramola said.
Completed Projects
Highlighting major accomplishments, Daramola listed the reconstruction of the damaged pedestrian bridge at Estate Gate, Alapere; the construction of the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and bridge in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA; and several roads in Ikoyi and Victoria Island. Others include:
Babafemi Dada network of roads in Alimosho
Sobo Arobiodu Street, Oduduwa Crescent and other roads in Ikeja GRA
St. Finbarr’s College Road and Sand Zero Street in Lagos Mainland
Buba Marwa (Mumuni Adio) Navy Town Road and Old Ojo Road in Amuwo Odofin
Chief Yesufu Abiodun Oniru Road and Demurin/Agidi Road in Kosofe LGA
Projects completed and awaiting commissioning include the Aradagun-Mosafejo-Ilado-Imeke Road, Samuel Ekundayo Road, Toga Road (Badagry LGA), Abaranje Road, Magbon-Alade Township Roads (Ibeju-Lekki), and Arowojobe Link Bridge in Mende, Maryland.
Iconic Ongoing Projects
Among key ongoing projects, the Special Adviser listed:
Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, an iconic project that connects Opebi to Maryland
Eti-Osa–Lekki–Epe Expressway, a 47.88km concrete pavement road from Abraham Adesanya to Epe Junction
Omu Creek Bridge, linking Lekki-Epe Expressway to the proposed Lagoon Highway
Lagos-Badagry Expressway Upgrade, expanded to 10 lanes with BRT and light rail corridor from Eric Moore to Okokomaiko
Daramola affirmed that these projects would be completed before the end of the administration’s tenure.
Infrastructure Maintenance and Connectivity Expansion
The Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) has intervened on 1,177 roads, covering 78.42km, through sectional repairs, overlays, pothole patching, and drainage maintenance on 218 channels totalling 462km. The Corporation has also expanded its operations from routine maintenance to full-scale road construction.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) has intensified the state’s digital infrastructure drive. An additional 2,700km of fibre duct installations are planned, building on the 3,000km laid by WTES. This effort has attracted $22 million in foreign direct investment for enhanced broadband deployment.

“These projects are the backbone for smart urban expansion, economic growth, and regional competitiveness,” Daramola said.
Challenges and Outlook
Daramola identified challenges such as the low-lying terrain of Lagos, flooding, escalating construction costs, and public misuse and vandalism of infrastructure. Nonetheless, he emphasized the administration’s resolve to transform Lagos into a smart, resilient, and inclusive megacity.
“Our investments are connecting communities, driving economic growth, and transforming lives. Governor Sanwo-Olu is committed to sustaining this momentum until the final day in office,” he concluded.
