MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has announced the renewal and extension of its 800MHz spectrum licenses following approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The first 800MHz spectrum band license (Channel 1) has been renewed for an additional 10 years, effective January 1, 2025, and will now run until December 31, 2034.
In a corporate notice filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Tuesday, MTN Nigeria also revealed that the NCC approved the extension of its second 800MHz spectrum band license (Channel 2). Previously set to expire on December 31, 2030, the extension adds four years to its tenure, aligning its expiration date with Channel 1 on December 31, 2034.
The harmonization of the licenses aims to streamline the renewal process, providing operational consistency for the telecommunications giant.
MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, welcomed the development, stating, “We are pleased with the successful renewal and harmonization of our 800MHz spectrum licenses, which lay a solid foundation for the ongoing delivery of 4G services to our customers. This enables us to continue meeting the growing demand for data and aligns with our broader strategy for enhancing connectivity.”
The renewal and extension underscore MTN Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its network infrastructure and enhancing customer experience as it continues to play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
