The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has directed importers, customs agents, and other stakeholders to recapture their import declarations following the cancellation of the 4% Free-on-Board (FOB) charge on imports.
In a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS emphasized that all declarations made under the initial implementation of the charge have been annulled.
The directive aims to ensure clarity, consistency in customs operations, and a smooth clearance process. Importers and agents are urged to promptly recapture their entries through designated customs processing platforms to avoid delays.
To facilitate this transition, customs commands nationwide have been instructed to provide necessary support and clarifications to affected stakeholders. The NCS assured that adequate measures have been put in place to make the process seamless.
Reaffirming its commitment to effective service delivery, the NCS stated that the move aligns with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and the agency’s dedication to implementing government fiscal policies through stakeholder engagement and dialogue.
The Service also reiterated its focus on transparency and efficiency, urging traders to comply with the directive to prevent disruptions in the clearance of their consignments.
