The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially announced the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles.
The decision was made during a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, 2nd January 2025, where the NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee recommended Chelle for the role. This recommendation was later endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee on Tuesday, 7th January.
Chelle’s appointment is effective immediately, and he will be tasked with leading the Super Eagles in their bid to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. The next round of qualifiers, Matchdays 5 and 6, is scheduled for March.
The French-born coach, who has earned five caps for the Mali national team, has an extensive coaching background, having managed clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran. He served as the Head Coach of Mali from 2022 until his dismissal in June 2024.
The NFF expressed confidence that Chelle’s experience and expertise will be crucial in guiding the Super Eagles towards success in the upcoming qualifiers and beyond.
