Nigeria Police Strengthen Security with Proactive Strategies

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has bolstered its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens through proactive, intelligence-driven strategies. These measures have disrupted criminal networks and significantly reduced incidents of organized and violent crime nationwide.

Armed Robbery Syndicate Neutralized
In a major breakthrough, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Ogaga Dickson, a member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate linked to the death of CSP Hassan Jega, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division in Delta State.

CSP Jega was killed on October 14, 2024, during a fierce gun battle while foiling a robbery operation led by the syndicate. Following the arrest of Ogaga on November 1, 2024, police recovered an array of weaponry, including an AK-47 rifle, an English pistol, a locally made pistol, assorted ammunition, and six exotic vehicles. Earlier engagements with the gang had resulted in the neutralization of four members during an exchange of gunfire.

Child Trafficking Ring Dismantled
On December 2, 2024, police operatives uncovered a child-trafficking syndicate led by Pastor Dayo Bernard of the End Time Army Ministry in Bukuru, Plateau State. The operation led to the rescue of five children, aged 2 to 4, who had been abducted from homes across Jos.

The arrest of accomplices, including Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel, and Peter Ukwuani, provided critical leads. Under interrogation, Bernard admitted to abducting and selling 13 children, all of whom have now been recovered and reunited with their families through the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

Crackdown on Illicit Arms
In line with directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to eliminate illegal arms and ammunition, the FID-IRT recovered 14 AK-47 rifles during recent operations.

Commitment to National Security
The successes of these operations underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering determination to combat crime and enhance national security. By employing advanced intelligence strategies and rapid response initiatives, the NPF continues to demonstrate its resolve to protect lives and property across the country.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and support the efforts of the police by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
