The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has ramped up its crude oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd) and gas production to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscfd), marking a significant achievement in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directives.
At a press briefing on Thursday, NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kyari, commended the Production War Room Team for its role in driving the recovery and escalation of production. Kyari emphasized the team’s efforts in meeting both short- and long-term production targets set by the President, the Minister of Petroleum, and the company’s Board.
Mr. Lawal Musa, Chief War Room Coordinator and Senior Business Adviser, explained that the production increase was made possible through close collaboration with Joint Venture and production-sharing contract partners, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and both government and private security agencies. He highlighted that the team’s efforts led to production growth from 1.43mbpd in June 2024 to 1.7mbpd in August and reached the current 1.8mbpd in November.
Musa expressed confidence that with continued collaboration and enhanced security measures, NNPC Ltd could reach a production target of 2mbpd by year-end.
The Chairman of the NNPC Ltd Board, Chief Pius Akinyelure, also praised the team’s achievements, expressing pride in the recovery process. He called for a cashflow projection based on the new production figures and set a goal to eventually increase production to 3mbpd.
Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), voiced his satisfaction with the progress and assured continued government support for NNPC Ltd’s efforts.
