In preparation for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated the Tactical Response Hybrid Squad. This specialized unit is tasked with addressing potential security threats across the state during the festive season.
Speaking at the State Command Headquarters in Awka on Thursday, State Commandant Maku Olatunde outlined the objectives of the newly launched squad during a tactical briefing with heads of departments, units, area commanders, divisional officers, and composite commanders.
According to Commandant Olatunde, the Tactical Response Hybrid Squad will focus on protecting critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure, combating illegal mining activities, curbing unauthorized petroleum dealings, and eliminating quackery in private security outfits.
“Our vision is to make Anambra a safe state for everyone through a relentless pursuit of vandals, illegal miners, economic saboteurs, and unqualified operators in the private security sector,” Olatunde stated.
He emphasized the squad’s proactive approach, which includes intelligence-driven operations, rapid response, robust patrols, stop-and-search procedures, and sting operations.
The Commandant also urged the newly formed squad to maintain professionalism and uphold high standards, warning that disciplinary measures would be taken against any personnel found engaging in misconduct.
Commending the strong collaboration between the NSCDC and other security agencies in Anambra, Olatunde assured that the command remains committed to protecting critical infrastructure and maintaining peace in the state.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Charles Soludo for his unwavering support, which has bolstered the Corps’ capacity to fulfill its mandate.
As part of the command’s commitment to ensuring safety during the festive period, Olatunde called on residents of Anambra to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NSCDC formation.
“Our determination is to provide a secure environment for Ndi Anambra and all residents before, during, and after the Yuletide season,” he added.
