The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of former governor Rauf Aregbesola, citing alleged anti-party activities. The suspension, effective immediately, follows a resolution by the Ilesa East Local Government Executive Committee, which called for disciplinary measures to address actions they say undermine party unity.
According to a resolution submitted to APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Osun APC Executive Committee accuses Aregbesola of forming splinter groups, collaborating with opposition factions to destabilize the APC, and publicly criticizing party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The State APC believes swift disciplinary action will reinforce party discipline.
The Osun State Disciplinary Committee has issued a formal notice to Aregbesola, requesting his response to the charges in adherence with party protocols. A source within the Ilesa East APC noted that the suspension follows a “thorough investigation” of the allegations.
Aregbesola, who served two terms as governor and was once closely allied with Tinubu, has faced criticism for his perceived support of opposition factions during recent election cycles. Sources close to Aregbesola have dismissed the suspension as politically motivated, suggesting it is a premeditated attempt to edge him out of the party.
As of this report, Aregbesola has not issued an official statement, leaving the matter open to further developments.
