PDP Moves to Woo Peter Obi Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed interest in reuniting with former member and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as a “valuable political asset” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed the party’s plans during an interview on Arise Television. He praised Obi’s strong performance in the last presidential race, where he garnered over six million votes despite significant challenges.

“Peter Obi is our product, and we want him back,” Abdullahi said. “He remains a formidable force in Nigerian politics, and his return would be a major boost for the PDP.”

He acknowledged that Obi’s departure from the PDP before the 2023 election was a significant blow, but added that the party continues to hold him in high regard and sees his return as part of a broader strategy to unify opposition forces.

“We’re engaging in internal consultations and long-term planning,” Abdullahi said. “In due time, we hope to welcome him back.”

Obi, a former Anambra State governor, left the PDP for the Labour Party in 2022, emerging as a key player in Nigeria’s changing political landscape.
