Golf legend Tiger Woods announced on Tuesday the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods, paying tribute to her as “my biggest fan” and a constant source of support throughout his career.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote on Instagram.
The 15-time major champion described his mother as “a force of nature”, recalling her unwavering support, quick wit, and deep love for her family.
“She was my biggest fan and greatest supporter. Without her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie.”
Woods expressed gratitude for the support and privacy extended to his family during this difficult time, concluding his message with “Love you Mom.”
A Strong Influence on Woods’ Career
Born in Thailand, Kultida met Woods’ father, Earl Woods, in the late 1960s while he was serving in the U.S. military in Bangkok. She played a significant role in shaping Woods’ legendary career and was a familiar presence at tournaments, supporting him through his greatest triumphs.
Woods has often spoken about his mother’s discipline and influence, once noting that she was the true “enforcer” in the family.
“My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him. My mom’s still here, and I’m still deathly afraid of her. She’s a very tough, tough old lady—very demanding. She was the hand, she was the one. I love her so much.”
