Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has praised Oleksandr Usyk’s triumph over Tyson Fury in their heavyweight world championship rematch on Saturday, describing it as a powerful testament to Ukraine’s unwavering determination.
“Victory!” Zelensky wrote on Telegram. “So important and so necessary for all of us now.”
Zelensky linked Usyk’s success to Ukraine’s ongoing fight nearly three years after Russia’s invasion, highlighting the victory as a symbol of national resilience and resolve.
“By retaining the championship belts, Oleksandr proves: we are Ukrainians, and we will not give up what’s ours. No matter how difficult it is — we will win,” Zelensky declared.
The president likened Usyk’s determination in the ring to Ukraine’s broader struggles, emphasizing the nation’s steadfastness on the battlefield and in diplomacy.
