Flutterwave Enables American Express Payments for Nigerian Merchants

Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, announced today that its online merchants in Nigeria can now accept American Express payments. This new capability allows American Express Card Members, including those with consumer, business, or corporate cards, to make payments directly to e-commerce businesses using Flutterwave’s platform in Nigeria.

The service is set to expand to other countries, including Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, and Uganda, in the near future, further enhancing the payment options available to merchants and shoppers across Africa.

This collaboration between Flutterwave and American Express offers significant benefits for both merchants and online shoppers. Merchants using Flutterwave can now attract a broader customer base, including American Express Card Members from Africa and around the world, thereby expanding their market reach. Meanwhile, shoppers gain more flexibility in choosing their preferred payment methods when transacting with Flutterwave merchants.

Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “At Flutterwave, we’re always looking for ways to connect the world to Africa through payments. This is one of our initiatives to ensure that more people across the world can pay using Flutterwave in Africa. We understand the value of providing shoppers with payment methods that work for them, as well as helping businesses to expand their customer bases.”

Briana Wilsey, Vice President and General Manager of Global Network Services EMEA at American Express, also highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, saying, “American Express continues to expand in Africa to enable greater payment choice for businesses and consumers. Through the agreement with Flutterwave, a trusted payment provider, we are giving e-commerce merchants in Nigeria the opportunity to reach American Express Card Members around the world. This collaboration is a win-win because it also increases the number of places where our Card Members can use their Cards in Nigeria.”

The partnership is expected to strengthen American Express’s global network while enhancing the user experience for both Flutterwave merchants and American Express Card Members in Africa.
