BREAKING: EFCC Detains Ex-Gov Darius Ishaku Over N9.3bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, in Abuja over allegations of misappropriating N9.3 billion in state funds.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details on the case.

Ishaku, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023, faces 15 charges, including criminal breach of trust and misappropriation. He is expected to be arraigned alongside a co-accused, former Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Yero, who is facing similar charges.

The EFCC had initially invited Ishaku for questioning shortly after his tenure ended, but he was unable to attend due to health concerns. He later reported to the commission’s Abuja office, where he was detained and subsequently released on bail.

This arrest forms part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and promote accountability within Nigeria’s public sector. Ishaku is the latest in a string of former governors facing prosecution for alleged financial misconduct.
