The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has emerged victorious in the local government elections held across Kano State’s 44 local government areas, winning all chairmanship and councillorship seats. This was announced by Sani Malumfashi, Chairman of the Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), who declared NNPP the winner in all contested regions at the commission’s headquarters.
The election saw participation from six political parties and was lauded for its peaceful conduct and lack of reported violence. “We are pleased to announce that the NNPP has won all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 44 local government areas. The election was conducted in a transparent and orderly manner without incidents,” said Malumfashi during a press briefing.
Observers praised the seamless organization and security arrangements, noting that the election’s successful execution marked a significant milestone for Kano State.
This election came after prolonged litigation attempts to halt the process. On Friday, Kano State High Court granted KANSIEC authority to proceed, dismissing motions by several political parties to stop the exercise. Justice Sanusi Ma’aji ruled that KANSIEC is constitutionally empowered to conduct local government elections across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
On election day, local vigilante groups and Kano Road Transport Agency (KAROTA) officials provided security at polling units, following a court order that barred the Kano State Police from participating.
