The Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited has commenced its Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC-HCD) Basic Training Programme for the Train 7 Project in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This initiative aims to reskill young graduates and bolster human capital development in the oil and gas sector.
A total of 331 graduates from diverse disciplines were selected from 848 shortlisted candidates through the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board’s (NCDMB) Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content (NOGIC) Joint Qualification System (JQS) portal. The participants will undergo a 12-month training program in areas such as ICT, Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Non-destructive Testing (NDT), Quality Management Systems, Marine and Offshore Services, and Facility Management and Maintenance.
During the launch event, Engr. Joshua Anemeje, NLNG Train 7 Corporate Liaison Manager, emphasized the importance of the program, attributing its successful initiation to NCDMB’s support. “We are excited about the impact this program will have on the participants. The Train 7 Project is nearly 75% complete, employing over 10,000 skilled individuals on-site. This training provides an opportunity for young talents to gain knowledge and apply it to future endeavors,” he said.
The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Ogbe, represented by Dr. Ama Ikuru, Director of Capacity Building and Corporate Services, underscored the program’s significance in fulfilling the NOGICD Act’s human capital development requirements. “This initiative builds a pool of skilled professionals to support Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, representing a crucial investment in our country’s future,” he stated. Dr. Ikuru also highlighted pathways to employment for high-performing trainees and encouraged other graduates to register on the NOGIC JQS portal for similar opportunities.
The training is being delivered by the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN).
The Train 7 Project is a landmark initiative expected to increase NLNG’s production capacity by 35%, from 22 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa, reinforcing Nigeria’s position in the global LNG market.
