Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has directed the immediate restructuring and sanitization of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Kebbi State, as part of a broader vision to enhance investigative capacity within the Nigeria Police Force.
In a strategic move to ensure professionalism and efficiency, all officers currently assigned to the Kebbi State CID are to be redeployed to other commands, formations, and units, including training schools. This restructuring aims to inject specialized expertise into the department and align its operations with modern policing standards under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, and the Police Act, 2020.
Focus on Specialized and Standardized Investigations
The IGP emphasized the importance of consistent training for officers involved in investigative work, building on the outcomes of a recent workshop held with Heads of Police Investigative Units in Abuja on November 11, 2024.
This initiative reflects the Force’s commitment to establishing specialized units capable of conducting standardized investigations and intelligence gathering in line with best practices and the rule of law.
Broader Reform Efforts Underway
The Kebbi State CID restructuring is part of a larger plan to reform investigative units nationwide. The IGP has stated that similar reorganizations will follow after receiving reports from technical committees tasked with evaluating ongoing reforms.
By enhancing investigative standards, the Nigeria Police Force aims to strengthen public trust, ensure justice, and improve crime-solving efficiency.
