Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has confirmed her appearance at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos, following an invitation over alleged currency abuse at her daughter’s wedding ceremony.
In a statement via her verified Instagram account, Ojo disclosed that she received the invitation while in the United Kingdom and honored it upon her return on May 5, 2025.
“I was asked several questions regarding my personal background, business activities, and video clips from my daughter’s wedding showing guests spraying Naira and foreign currencies,” she said.
Ojo admitted being unaware that spraying money constituted a violation, noting, “I thought only mutilation of the Naira was an offence. I was surprised to learn that spraying any currency, including foreign notes, is illegal.”
She was released the same day after interrogation, with her lawyer, O.I. Salami, standing in should she be required to return.
The actress advised Nigerians to refrain from spraying money at events, calling for a reevaluation of the cultural practice. “Let’s prioritise caution and avoid unnecessary trouble,” she added.
