Equatorial Guinea Joins AFC as 47th Member State

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea has officially joined the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), becoming its 47th Member State, the continent’s leading infrastructure solutions provider announced today. The accession follows closely after the Central African Republic’s recent membership, marking a significant step in AFC’s expanding presence across Central Africa and the continent.

Equatorial Guinea, one of Africa’s most resource-rich nations, is pursuing a long-term national vision under its Horizon 2035 strategy, focusing on economic diversification beyond hydrocarbons, industrialisation, and the development of transport, logistics, energy, and digital infrastructure. The strategy aims to enhance regional integration, boost value addition, and strengthen resilience against global market volatility.

Membership in AFC will enable Equatorial Guinea to leverage the Corporation’s technical expertise, project development capacity, and financial strength to accelerate high-impact infrastructure projects. AFC will collaborate with public and private sector stakeholders on initiatives spanning renewable energy, transport and logistics corridors, and natural resource beneficiation.

Hon. Ivan Bacale Ebe Molina, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development of Equatorial Guinea, said:
“Joining Africa Finance Corporation represents a key milestone in our development journey. AFC’s proven track record and commitment to African-led development make it an ideal partner to deliver bankable projects that support our Horizon 2035 goals.”

AFC President & CEO Samaila Zubairu welcomed the new membership, stating:
“We are delighted to have Equatorial Guinea as our 47th Member State. The country’s ambitious agenda to diversify its economy and build world-class infrastructure aligns perfectly with AFC’s mission. Together, we will catalyse transformational projects that accelerate sustainable growth for Equatorial Guinea and Central Africa.”

Equatorial Guinea now joins other Central African nations, including Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Rwanda, and São Tomé and Príncipe, in partnering with AFC to advance infrastructure-led development.

As a Member State, Equatorial Guinea gains access to AFC’s full suite of products, including project preparation, equity investments, debt financing, and risk mitigation instruments to mobilise capital for transformative projects.

The accession caps a significant year for AFC, which welcomed three new Member States in 2025, expanding its footprint to 47 African nations and strengthening its role as the continent’s premier infrastructure solutions provider, driving industrialisation and regional value chain development.
