The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and MTN Nigeria Communications Plc have entered into a strategic partnership to provide free high-speed Wi-Fi services at major international airports across the country.
The initiative, which has commenced at Terminal 2 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, will subsequently be extended to Port Harcourt International Airport; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu; and the soon-to-be-completed Temporary Terminal at MMIA.
The partnership is aimed at enhancing passenger experience and advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. Travellers at the designated airports will enjoy seamless internet connectivity, enabling them to stay connected, manage travel plans, and access online services while within airport terminals.
Director of Airport Operations at FAAN, Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood, described the initiative as a demonstration of the aviation sector’s readiness for global competitiveness. He said the collaboration underscores the potential of public-private partnerships in delivering infrastructure that meets international standards.
“Our message today is clear: Nigerian aviation is open for business and ready for the future. This partnership with MTN goes beyond convenience; it reflects what can be achieved when public and private institutions align toward a shared national purpose,” he said.
Mahmood added that FAAN remains committed to addressing service gaps and improving operational efficiency across airports.
On her part, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Nigeria, Lynda Saint Nwafor, said the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to strengthening national infrastructure and expanding digital access in public spaces. She noted that enterprise-grade connectivity can transform shared environments and create long-term value for users.
Passengers can access the service by selecting the airport’s designated Wi-Fi network and completing a simple registration process via a branded portal. Access is granted instantly for a limited period, with a verification email enabling full connectivity and seamless reconnection during subsequent visits.
The initiative is expected to redefine the travel experience at Nigerian airports, aligning them with global standards where reliable internet access is considered an essential service.
