A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Moses Adeyemo, has emerged as the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Adeyemo was officially announced at the party’s state congress held at Liberty Stadium in Ibadan. His emergence followed consultations among key party leaders across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State, according to a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Olawale Sadare.
Adeyemo, an indigene of Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area, served as deputy governor under the late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, from 2011 to 2019.
Providing an update on the congress, former National Youth Leader and Secretary of the party’s ad hoc zoning committee, Hon. Azeez Repete, said the exercise was conducted peacefully. He noted that Adeyemo emerged by consensus under the supervision of a congress committee constituted by the party’s national leadership in Abuja.
Repete disclosed that an ad hoc zoning committee had earlier been set up to allocate positions in the State Executive Committee among the local government chapters.
The APC national leadership had scheduled March 3 for the conduct of state congresses nationwide, ahead of the party’s National Convention slated for March 27 and 28.
The state congress followed the completion of ward congresses held on February 28, as well as local government congresses and the election of three delegates per local government for the National Convention on February 21.
According to the adjusted 2026 schedule of nationwide congresses and related activities signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, appeals arising from the congresses will be heard on March 4.
The party also fixed March 13 to March 16 for the purchase and submission of forms for the zonal congresses and the National Convention, while the inauguration of zonal congress screening and appeal committees, as well as National Convention screening committees, is scheduled for March 23.
