Former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has described President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda as a “scam” and called for his resignation, citing worsening insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria.
Aregbesola made the remarks on Saturday while addressing delegates at the ADC National Convention in Abuja, where he delivered a strong critique of the current administration.
He alleged that the government had failed to fulfil key campaign promises, particularly in electricity supply, economic stability, and citizens’ welfare, arguing that the situation had deteriorated since 2023.
The former governor criticised the state of power supply, claiming that many parts of the country still experience prolonged blackouts despite earlier assurances of improvement.
He also faulted the administration’s economic policies, citing the depreciation of the naira and rising fuel prices, which he said had worsened living conditions and increased transport costs nationwide.
Aregbesola further raised concerns over insecurity, describing the situation as evidence of what he called a lack of effective governance and empathy for citizens.
He also claimed that poverty levels and the number of out-of-school children had increased, blaming what he described as poor policy outcomes.
Positioning the ADC as an alternative political platform, Aregbesola said the party was on a “rescue mission” to restore governance and accountability in the country.
He urged Nigerians to support the party, warning against what he described as continued national decline and urging urgent political action ahead of future elections.
