Lagos Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Returning Officer, retired Gen. Jonathan Temlong, announced the result on Friday at the collation centre at the APC Secretariat in Ikeja, saying Hamzat secured 657,917 votes to defeat his sole rival, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, who polled one vote.
Temlong said 657,974 delegates were accredited for the exercise, noting that the primary was peaceful and conducted across 245 wards in the state’s 20 local government areas.
He described the process as transparent and compliant with party guidelines, while also commending officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their monitoring role.
Providing a breakdown of results, the returning officer said Hamzat recorded 74,501 votes in Alimosho, 55,148 in Ikorodu, 51,600 in Kosofe, 49,079 in Lagos Mainland, and 38,971 in Mushin.
He also secured 37,680 votes in Epe, 38,627 in Ifako-Ijaiye, 36,372 in Ojo, 31,972 in Oshodi-Isolo, and 28,754 in Eti-Osa, among others across the state.
Declaring the final outcome, Temlong announced Hamzat as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Lagos State.
Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, commended the conduct of party members and electoral officials, describing the exercise as orderly and credible.
He said the peaceful primary reflected the unity and strength of the APC in Lagos State ahead of the general elections.
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat thanked President Bola Tinubu, party leaders, and members for their support, pledging to consolidate on the achievements of the current administration if elected governor.
He promised inclusive governance and continued development across the state.
Initially, four aspirants purchased nomination forms for the race, but Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor) and Samuel Ajose later withdrew from the contest, leaving Hamzat as the consensus candidate.
