The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed a total of ₦1.5 billion in student loans to 6,129 students across three tertiary institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In an update posted on its verified X handle on Thursday, NELFUND said the beneficiaries are students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ekiti State; Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, Ogun State; and the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences, Benin City.
According to the Fund, BOUESTI received the largest allocation of ₦1.36 billion, disbursed in five tranches to 5,396 students. Sikiru Adetona College received ₦104.53 million for 680 students, while the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences received ₦36.49 million for 53 students.
NELFUND said the three institutions have acknowledged receipt of the funds.
The Registrar of Sikiru Adetona College, Dr. Bukola Makinde, confirmed that the funds had been paid directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries.
She described the intervention as a significant boost that would enable students to pursue their studies without financial constraints.
The Provost of the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences, Mabel Omobude, assured that the institution would ensure the funds were used strictly for their intended educational purposes, while maintaining transparency and accountability in line with global best practices.
Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor of BOUESTI, Prof. Andrew Babatunde Omojola, confirmed receipt of the ₦1.36 billion disbursed in five tranches for 5,396 students.
He commended the Federal Government and the management of NELFUND for the timely disbursement, describing the initiative as a major step towards improving access to higher education and achieving the objectives of the student loan scheme nationwide.
