Dangote Cement Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable business practices, environmental protection and responsible growth across Africa as the company continues to integrate sustainability into its operations.
The company said its sustainability strategy focuses on reducing environmental impact, improving energy efficiency, promoting diversity and inclusion, supporting host communities and creating long-term value for stakeholders across its 10 African markets.
As part of its decarbonisation and green logistics efforts, Dangote Cement is expanding its alternative-energy transportation programme with the acquisition of 1,500 additional compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks.
The company said the initiative will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve operational efficiency and lower reliance on diesel-powered transportation.
Dangote Cement also announced progress in its environmental performance, receiving an upgraded “B” rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for its climate and water management initiatives.
The company said energy optimisation remains a key part of its sustainability strategy, with an improved energy mix helping to reduce production costs while lowering its carbon footprint.
Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement Plc, Arvind Pathak, said sustainability is embedded in the company’s operations, investments and growth strategy.
He said the company remains focused on reducing environmental impact through cleaner energy sources, improved efficiency and innovative logistics solutions such as its expanding CNG-powered fleet.
Pathak added that while cement remains essential to Africa’s infrastructure development, the company is committed to producing quality products in a way that reduces emissions, conserves resources, protects the environment and benefits host communities.
Beyond environmental initiatives, Dangote Cement said it continues to strengthen corporate governance and social responsibility, with women accounting for 28 per cent of its Board membership and directors representing seven nationalities.
The company noted that its sustainability programmes align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas of responsible industrialisation, climate action, economic growth and community development.
Dangote Cement said its sustainability efforts complement a resilient business model focused on creating shared value for investors, employees, customers, communities and governments across Africa.
The company highlighted key sustainability achievements, including its improved CDP rating, investment in 1,500 additional CNG trucks, continued energy efficiency initiatives, diverse board representation and alignment with global sustainability goals.
