Efforts to improve road safety in Ogun State have received a boost following renewed collaboration between Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The development followed a courtesy visit by the newly deployed Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, and members of his management team to the Ibese Plant.
The engagement focused on strategies to improve road safety awareness, driver competence and compliance with traffic regulations across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Ogunjobi commended Dangote Cement for its continued support for the FRSC and its contributions to road safety initiatives.
He described the company as one of the Corps’ reliable corporate partners, noting that its extensive logistics and transportation operations made its commitment to road safety particularly important.
“Road safety is not the responsibility of FRSC alone. It requires collective action from government agencies, private sector organisations, transport operators and road users,” Ogunjobi said.
He called for closer collaboration with Dangote Cement to strengthen safety awareness and compliance with road traffic regulations.
The Sector Commander also proposed the establishment of an FRSC Special Marshal Unit at the Ibese Plant to promote road safety advocacy among employees and transport operators.
According to him, the proposed unit could support specialised driver training, regular sensitisation programmes and safety campaigns aimed at reducing road crashes.
Ogunjobi assured the company of the FRSC’s readiness to provide technical support through capacity building, continuous engagement and safety education.
Responding, Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant, Ayyagri Subbaraidu, described the FRSC as a critical stakeholder in the company’s operations and commended the Corps for its efforts to protect lives on Nigerian roads.
Subbaraidu said safety remained a central part of Dangote Cement’s operational philosophy and long-term growth strategy.
“Safety is not merely a regulatory requirement for us; it is a core value that guides how we operate every day,” he said.
He added that the company’s Vision 2030 places emphasis on responsible operations, sustainability and stakeholder collaboration, making road safety a key priority.
Subbaraidu welcomed the FRSC’s proposals, particularly those focused on driver education and safety awareness, and assured the delegation that the company would continue to explore initiatives to strengthen the partnership.
He said Dangote Cement remained committed to working with the FRSC to improve driver competence, enhance compliance and promote safer roads for employees, contractors and other road users.
Both organisations expressed confidence that stronger collaboration would contribute to improved road safety, responsible driving and better compliance with safety regulations across Ogun State.
