Russia has resumed strikes on Kyiv following the expiration of a three-day halt ordered by President Vladimir Putin during a visit to the Russian and Ukrainian capitals by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said late Monday that Russian drones targeted the Boryspil and Fastiv districts in the Kyiv region.
The Kyiv City Military Administration also declared an air raid alert, warning residents of a possible drone attack and urging them to take shelter.
A wave of explosions was heard across Kyiv early Tuesday, triggering car alarms in the city centre, according to AFP journalists. Authorities reported damage to buildings in Kyiv and the Boryspil and Fastiv districts, while smoke and fires were seen in parts of the capital.
The strikes followed the expiration of the three-day pause announced by Putin as US President Donald Trump’s envoys held discussions with Russian and Ukrainian officials.
Witkoff said progress had been made in the talks and raised the possibility of reviving three-way peace negotiations involving the United States, Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict.
