NNPC Retail Limited has commissioned its first Smart Self-Service Station on Bill Clinton Drive in Abuja, offering customers a technology-enabled fuelling and mobility experience.
The station combines fuel sales, electric vehicle (EV) charging and other mobility and lifestyle services, with a 24-hour self-service system that allows customers to select their preferred fuel volume and make payments independently.
The facility was developed by NNPC Retail, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), which provided the land.
Speaking at the commissioning, NNPC Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, said the project marked another milestone in the company’s efforts to improve convenience, operational efficiency and customer experience.
NNPC Retail Managing Director, Huub Stokman, said the Smart Station was designed to meet changing consumer preferences in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
He said customers increasingly demand quality products, competitive prices, convenient payment options and additional energy solutions such as EV charging and compressed natural gas (CNG).
The station has 16 Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pumps and two Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) pumps, with storage capacity of 180,000 litres of PMS and 5,000 litres of AGO.
It also features an 86-point EV charging facility developed in partnership with Africa Motor Works, an LPG dispensing facility, lubricant service bay and automated car wash. Provision has also been made for future installation of CNG infrastructure.
The facility is powered by more than 200 kilowatt-hours of installed solar capacity and includes space for quick-service restaurants, a coffee shop and a convenience store.
NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nandap, represented by Deputy Comptroller General, Finance and Accounts, Saidu Bashir Daura, described the station as a model for promoting investment in sustainable energy infrastructure and innovative transportation solutions.
Stokman commended the NIS, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Africa Motor Works, technology partners, contractors and other stakeholders for their contributions to the project.
He reaffirmed NNPC Retail’s plan to expand the Smart Station model across Nigeria as part of efforts to build a more convenient, technology-driven retail network.
