Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the death of veteran Nollywood actor Oludotun Bayegun Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, as a great loss to Nigeria’s creative industry.
Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the late actor’s legacy would endure through his remarkable body of work and the memories he created.
The governor praised Jacobs’ contributions to Nigeria’s theatre, television and film industries, describing his talent, creativity and professionalism as exceptional.
According to him, Jacobs used his craft to entertain, inspire and positively influence society throughout his career, which spanned more than five decades.
Sanwo-Olu said Jacobs was one of the respected fathers of Nollywood and a legendary actor and filmmaker who featured in several British and Nigerian television series and films.
He said the late actor’s impact on the entertainment industry had cemented his place in Nigeria’s cultural history and that he would be missed by his family, friends, colleagues, fans and admirers.
The governor expressed his condolences to Jacobs’ widow, actress Joke Silva, his family, friends and the wider Nigerian entertainment industry.
He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked God to grant the family and members of the creative industry the strength and comfort to bear the loss.
