Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has reiterated his administration’s focus on data-driven agriculture to boost food security, citing the Farmers’ Information Management System that currently tracks 160,000 farmers statewide.
Speaking at the launch of the ₦500 billion Produce for Lagos Offtake Guarantee Fund in Ikeja, Lagos, Governor Abiodun emphasized the need for similar national funding frameworks to support agriculture.
“Lagos has taken the lead. A national food guarantee fund could revolutionize farming and ensure food sovereignty,” Abiodun said.
The new initiative will connect food-producing states like Ogun, Niger, Taraba, and Kogi with Lagos markets, ensuring offtake and reducing post-harvest losses.
Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos praised the initiative as a strategic move to combat food inflation and enhance supply chains. Other governors pledged regional contributions, including cattle processing (Niger), crop cultivation (Taraba), and logistics infrastructure (Kogi).
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed to formalize state partnerships in the program.
