A Federal High Court has granted bail to #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, in the sum of ₦10 million with one surety in like sum.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Musa Liman ordered that the surety must be a responsible individual with landed property of equivalent value. The original documents of the property and a passport photograph must be submitted to the court registrar.
As part of the bail conditions, Sowore is required to deposit his international passport with the registrar. The judge further directed that he must perfect the bail terms within 24 hours or face remand in police custody until compliance.
Sowore was arrested after honoring a police invitation on January 27, 2025, at the Force Criminal Investigation Department. While he was initially granted administrative bail, he rejected the conditions and remained in detention. The police subsequently filed a 16-count cybercrime charge against him.
Among the allegations, the police accused Sowore of referring to Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as “the illegal IG of Nigeria Police Force” in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on December 20, 2024. Another charge claims he posted Egbetokun’s picture with the caption: “Mediocrity, incompetence, corruption, a country run by characterless people cannot make progress.”
The police also alleged that Sowore warned that “IGP Kayode Egbetokun will destroy the Nigeria Police if we don’t act now.”
