The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has commenced the distribution of 40,000 bags of 10kg rice across all 20 local government areas in Ogun State, prioritizing People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), widows, market women, youth, and other vulnerable groups.
The initiative, part of ADF’s National Food Intervention Programme, was officially flagged off at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun at the event, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, commended the Foundation for aligning with the state’s ongoing efforts to cushion the impact of economic hardship on its residents.
Governor Abiodun praised the Foundation’s sustained partnership with the state in areas such as health, security, and economic empowerment, citing its contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and its donation of patrol vans to enhance security infrastructure.
“When corporate organizations initiate gestures like this, they deserve recognition. It is not just about doing business and leaving — the Dangote Foundation continues to demonstrate empathy and commitment to social welfare,” the governor said.
He also issued a stern warning against the resale of the donated rice. “This rice is to be distributed free of charge to the people. Anyone caught selling it will face consequences,” he warned, adding that the state would monitor the process to ensure equitable distribution.
In her remarks, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, lauded ADF’s consistent support for the state’s development and CSR initiatives across its host communities.
Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Mr. Victor Edero, Head of Operations at ADF, said the food intervention aims to support the federal government’s food security drive during the ongoing global economic challenges.
“Our focus remains on health, empowerment, and nutrition. Through this programme, we aim to ensure the vulnerable have access to basic food items like rice,” Edero stated, calling for fair distribution.
The Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Mrs. Yemisi Abbas, expressed appreciation to the Dangote Foundation for its generosity and urged the organization to consider introducing microloan schemes to further empower the poor.
Representatives of PLWDs, the Trade Council, Youth Council, and other grassroots groups also expressed gratitude to the Foundation and the state government, describing the collaboration as a model for effective public-private partnerships.
At the event, beneficiaries including widows, artisans, market women, and youth representatives received their allocations for distribution within their communities.
