Labour Party’s 2023 vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stated that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is welcome to contest the 2027 presidential election on the party’s platform, with or without him as a running mate.
Speaking during an interview on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed expressed strong support for Obi’s candidacy while distancing himself from any internal party conflict.
“The Labour Party welcomes him to retain the party’s ticket and contest in 2027, with or without me,” he said, adding that capacity, compassion, and effective leadership remain the core criteria for leadership in Nigeria.
He also addressed ongoing coalition efforts involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying they do not amount to anti-party activity but represent a broader movement to build consensus among political actors.
“This is not an anti-party activity. It is an unfolding situation. Political parties, interest groups, and individuals are coming together in coalition,” he explained.
On the zoning debate ahead of the 2027 election, Baba-Ahmed stated his preference for a southern presidency, reaffirming his commitment to national equity.
