Former Chairman of Lapai Local Government Area in Niger State, Isah Saidu Baka, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing political realignment and personal convictions.
Baka submitted his resignation to the PDP leadership in Muye/Egba Ward and the state secretariat, dated July 22, 2025. In the letter, he said the decision followed wide consultations with family members, political allies, and constituents.
“This decision was not taken lightly, but it reflects my commitment to a new direction that prioritizes grassroots development and effective representation,” Baka stated.
He served as Chairman of Lapai LGA from 2011 to 2014 and was the PDP’s candidate for the Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 elections.
Expressing appreciation to the PDP for the platform and opportunities offered, Baka said he would continue to value the relationships and experiences gained during his time in the party.
Political observers view his defection as part of a growing trend among PDP members in Niger State shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a possible reshaping of the region’s political landscape.
