In a significant humanitarian effort, Fidelity Bank Plc has provided essential relief materials—including mattresses and food items—to more than 2,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by recent violence in Yelwata, Benue State.

The donation was made at the Ultra-Modern International Market IDP Camp in Makurdi, in collaboration with the Abbasid Charity Foundation, under the bank’s flagship Fidelity Food Bank initiative.

Since its launch in April 2023, the initiative has distributed over 200,000 food packs to vulnerable Nigerians across all six geopolitical zones.

Speaking during the outreach, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility agenda.

“The Fidelity Food Bank has continued to help alleviate poverty and hunger. We are honored to return to Benue to offer comfort and relief to families facing dire conditions,” Nwagboh said.

Mrs. Hawa Abbas, Executive Officer of Abbasid Charity Foundation, added that providing mattresses was aimed at restoring dignity to displaced individuals who had been sleeping on bare floors.

“We want these individuals to know they are not forgotten,” she said. “This donation brings a message of hope and humanity.”

Representing the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Camp Manager Mr. Robert Nyom expressed deep gratitude for the timely intervention.

“Your support has brought significant relief, and we commend your compassion,” Nyom stated.

This latest outreach follows Fidelity Bank’s intervention in Mokwa, Niger State, where over 1,500 flood victims received aid. The bank continues to demonstrate leadership in socially responsible banking, reaching over 9.1 million customers across its 255 business locations and through its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

Fidelity Bank has also earned numerous accolades, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award, the Most Innovative Mobile Banking App (Global Business Outlook), and Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria (Euromoney Awards for Excellence).
