FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution, has commenced construction of its state-of-the-art, green-certified headquarters in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. The 40-story skyscraper, set to be Nigeria’s tallest building, represents a major milestone in the bank’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, FirstBank Group CEO, Olusegun Alebiosu, described the project as a transformational development that will set new standards in the financial services sector.
“We are proud to embark on this journey of excellence. Our new headquarters is designed to be a world-class structure, reflecting our commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. This project will not only strengthen FirstBank’s legacy but also contribute to economic growth and development across Africa,” Alebiosu stated.
The cutting-edge building will incorporate advanced eco-friendly technologies, reducing operational costs and reinforcing FirstBank’s leadership in sustainable banking practices.
Femi Otedola, Chairman of FirstHoldCo, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the initiative.
“Today’s groundbreaking is a testament to the power of partnership and shared vision. We deeply appreciate the support of our customers and stakeholders as we bring this ambitious project to life,” Otedola remarked.
The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state governors, federal ministers, lawmakers, and industry leaders. The project marks a significant chapter in FirstBank’s 130-year history, reinforcing its role as a pioneer in Africa’s financial landscape.
