FirstBank: Celebrating December in Nigeria

By Ayomide Otitoju

December in Nigeria is a cherished season of relaxation, celebration, and bonding as people wind down from the year’s hustle and bustle. The month comes alive with vibrant arts and entertainment, including plays, concerts, operas, fashion shows, and poetry performances. The streets sparkle with colorful decorations, fireworks, and carnivals, while family and friends reunite, creating lasting memories.

Recognizing the significance of this festive season, FirstBank has once again launched its highly anticipated DecemberIssaVybe campaign, part of its First@arts initiative. The campaign, designed to empower Nigerians to create and enjoy thrilling experiences, offers fully paid access to premium concerts, shows, plays, and festivals featuring top-tier entertainers.

In a year marked by economic challenges, FirstBank’s initiative provides a welcome reprieve, enabling Nigerians to celebrate without financial strain. For over 130 years, the institution has embedded itself in the social fabric, supporting major festive events that showcase Africa’s biggest music stars, such as Kizz Daniel, Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Tiwa Savage.

Since its inception in 2018, the DecemberIssaVybe campaign has become synonymous with excitement, creating unforgettable moments eagerly awaited each year. The 2024 edition kicked off on Saturday, December 13, at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos with the sponsorship of Kenny Blaq’s Reckless Musicomedy Festival.

A Night of Laughter and Music
The festival blended music and comedy in an unforgettable evening of entertainment. Performers included DJ Neptune, Aproko, MC Monica, OvyGodwin, and Kenny Blaq himself. The headline act, Kehinde Otolorin, popularly known as Kenny Blaq, mesmerized fans with his signature mix of comedy and music.

Kenny Blaq shared his vision for the event, explaining, “Music and comedy have always been intertwined for me. This festival celebrates boldness, creativity, and authenticity while encouraging people to have fun.”

Themed around a positive take on “recklessness,” the festival celebrated courage and artistic freedom. Emerging talents shared the stage with renowned performers, showcasing Africa’s dynamic entertainment scene.

Enhancing the Festive Atmosphere
FirstBank elevated the experience with an interactive booth offering trivia games, mementos, and photo opportunities. Speaking at the event, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, highlighted FirstBank’s commitment to delivering a ‘Wow December to Remember.’

Ijabiyi noted, “FirstBank is proud to facilitate memorable experiences this December, from weddings and family reunions to festivals. Through the DecemberIssaVybe campaign, we continue our legacy of supporting the arts and creating unforgettable moments for our customers.”

Rewarding Entertainment Enthusiasts
As part of the campaign, FirstBank is offering over 500 VIP tickets for premium events, valued between ₦15,000 and ₦50,000, through its #DecemberIssaVybe and #FirstBankIssaVybe giveaway fest. Customers can look forward to enjoying some of Lagos’s most exciting December events, reinforcing FirstBank’s role as a champion of Nigeria’s cultural and entertainment landscape.

This festive season, FirstBank once again reaffirms its dedication to spreading joy, fostering creativity, and bringing communities together in celebration.
