Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation allowance for civil servants in Oyo State, in response to the recent increase in petrol prices nationwide.
The governor announced the three-month intervention during the supervision of the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme, held in collaboration with the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo.
Makinde said the initiative forms part of the state government’s broader measures to address current economic challenges, particularly the rising cost of transportation, which has adversely affected workers’ welfare and productivity.
He noted that the support is intended to ease financial pressure on civil servants while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.
“This intervention is a direct response to the realities faced by our workforce, as transportation costs continue to rise,” the governor said.
Makinde added that the measure aligns with his administration’s commitment to worker-focused policies under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) framework.
The event also featured the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP) and other support schemes aimed at boosting economic activities and livelihoods across the state.
Stakeholders at the engagement described the transport support as a timely relief for workers grappling with inflationary pressures.
The ₦10,000 allowance is scheduled to take effect from March, with details of the disbursement process to be communicated through official government channels.
