Minister Commends Dangote Cement, Seeks Housing Support

By Ayomide Otitoju

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has commended Dangote Cement Plc for its economic contributions and called on the company to deepen its involvement in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

Dangiwa made the appeal during a visit to Dangote Cement’s exhibition stand at the ongoing Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja. He said the Ministry is actively engaging with private sector players, including Dangote Cement, to drive affordable housing initiatives nationwide.

“We recognize Dangote Cement’s pivotal role in our economy and urge them to channel more efforts into the housing sector,” Dangiwa stated.

He highlighted the urgency of bridging Nigeria’s housing gap, estimated at over 20 million units, exacerbated by rapid urbanization and population growth.

Speaking at the event, AIHS Coordinator, Bar. Festus Adebayo, emphasized the importance of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in solving the country’s housing crisis. He encouraged private companies to incorporate housing provision into their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.

Dangote Cement is a key sponsor of the 19th edition of the AIHS, which opened on Monday at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. The event, hosting delegates from 21 countries, aims to foster innovation, collaboration, and policy development under the theme: “Reimagining Housing Through Innovation, Collaboration and Policy.”

The company’s “Special Day” at the forum is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2025.
