The controversy prompted an investigation into her citizenship, with the Home Affairs ministry raising allegations against her mother regarding fraud and identity theft.
Adetshina’s withdrawal comes after the investigation revealed potential indications of her mother’s involvement in fraud and identity theft. The ministry is seeking legal advice on the implications of this on Adetshina’s citizenship, given that she was an infant at the time of the alleged fraud. South Africa grants citizenship by birth to individuals born in the country after 1995 to a South African parent or permanent resident.
