Ado-Ekiti played host to over 280 golfers from across Nigeria as the 2025 Ekiti Golf Club Captain’s Inaugural Tournament took center stage on March 1-2, marking a major milestone for golf in the state. The two-day event celebrated the induction of Tolu Falayi as the club’s new captain and showcased MTN Nigeria’s commitment to sports development.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by Chief of Staff Niyi Adebayo, reaffirmed the state government’s support for golf, citing its economic and health benefits. “We want many of our people to adopt the game, come here regularly to play and enjoy themselves, while also benefiting from the health advantages golf offers,” Adebayo stated.
The tournament featured competitive categories for Gents (18-59 years old) and Veterans (60 and above), providing a platform for sportsmanship, business networking, and tourism promotion. Vice-Captain Olubunmi Albert emphasized the event’s role in positioning Ekiti as a premier golfing destination in Nigeria.
MTN Nigeria’s sponsorship aligns with its broader efforts to advance sports development nationwide. The telecom giant’s involvement highlights the critical role of private-sector partnerships in enhancing sports infrastructure and grassroots engagement in Ekiti.
Awards were presented across various categories, including Best Gross, Overall Net Winner, and recognitions for guests and club members. This successful inaugural tournament sets a promising tone for the future of golf in Ekiti under Captain Falayi’s two-year leadership.
