The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has called on air travelers to better understand their rights and responsibilities amid challenges faced at airports.
Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Head of Consumer Protection, made this appeal during a sensitization road walk held on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Achimugu emphasized the need for awareness, particularly during the current high travel season, as many passengers encounter delays and disruptions.
“We’re now in the high travel season in aviation, and as you know, there’s been a lot of flight disruptions as well as complaints,” Achimugu said.
He stressed that many passenger grievances stem from a lack of awareness about their rights and the causes of such disruptions.
“Our duty at NCAA is to educate passengers because most of the time, complaints about disruptions arise from poor knowledge about their rights and responsibilities as air passengers,” he explained.
Achimugu further highlighted the NCAA’s dual responsibility to protect both passengers and airlines, ensuring a balanced approach to addressing travel issues.
The event aimed to enhance passenger understanding and equip travelers with the knowledge needed to navigate challenges during one of the busiest periods in the aviation sector.
