Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, actor, and producer Kayode Peters has passed away. He died peacefully on Saturday morning, June 28, 2025, in Toronto, Canada, after a prolonged illness, according to a statement released by his family.
The announcement was made via Peters’ official Instagram page, where the family described him as a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend whose artistic legacy and personal warmth touched many lives.
“KP braved, challenged, and conquered a long-time illness until his last breath,” the statement read. “Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him.”
While the family did not disclose the nature of the illness, they asked for privacy and understanding during their period of mourning, noting that funeral arrangements would be shared at a later date.
Peters was celebrated as a key figure in Nigeria’s contemporary theatre and television space. He earned acclaim for his work on Extended Family and rose to prominence as the creative force behind Flatmates, a hit comedy series that gained popularity in the early 2000s. His influence spanned stage plays, sitcoms, and behind-the-scenes mentoring of young talents in the entertainment industry.
