The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has called on members of the public to report any misconduct by officers to their superiors, Complaint Response Unit (CRU) heads, or the Commissioner of Police in their respective states.
In a statement titled “Public Notice: Misuse of Name, Office of the Inspector-General of Police”, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi emphasized the NPF’s commitment to addressing unprofessional behavior within its ranks.
Warning Against Fraudulent Exploitation
The statement, issued on Saturday, warned Nigerians to exercise caution when approached by individuals claiming ties to Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun or other senior officers to exploit or intimidate them.
“The Nigeria Police Force is deeply concerned about the persistent unprofessional conduct of a few officers that undermines the standards and reputation of the force,” the statement read.
“Even more alarming is the fraudulent use of the name and office of the Inspector-General of Police to perpetrate illegal acts, intimidating victims into believing the IGP is aware and approves of their actions.”
The NPF urged the public to remain vigilant and report such misconduct without fear of reprisal.
