The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is set to inaugurate the construction of five mini-liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants in Kogi State today. The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for noon in Ajaokuta, marks a significant step in boosting Nigeria’s economic growth through enhanced gas infrastructure.
The five mini-LNG plants—Prime LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete—are designed to provide affordable and cleaner energy solutions for businesses and industries across the country. The initiative is expected to drive industrial growth, attract investment, and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
In a related development, NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd (NGML) and BUA Group have signed a shareholders’ agreement for the development of a 45-million-standard-cubic-feet (mmscf) mini-LNG plant in Ajaokuta. The signing ceremony, held on Tuesday at the NGML headquarters in Abuja, was attended by BUA Group’s Executive Director, Kabiru Rabiu, and Group Chief Legal Officer, Oluseye Alayande, alongside NGML’s management team led by Justin Ezeala.
According to NNPCL, the collaboration with BUA Group is a strategic move aimed at enhancing domestic gas utilization to support industries and businesses. The project is expected to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s energy landscape by supporting the gas-to-power initiative and facilitating broader economic development.
Speaking on the project, NNPCL reaffirmed its commitment to expanding Nigeria’s gas infrastructure, ensuring energy security, and promoting the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
