The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has announced its decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing ostracism, suspension, and expulsion of its members without fair hearing.
The group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, disclosed in a statement that the decision was reached after stakeholders from all 332 wards in Osun State ratified an earlier resolution during a monthly meeting in Ilesa on Sunday. Members affirmed their readiness to align with a new political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Explaining their decision, the group attributed it to the APC’s failure to address internal crises, which they claim have weakened the party’s structure and popularity in Osun.
The group also quoted Aregbesola commending members for their commitment to integrity and good governance. “You have spoken with one voice, and I am proud of your unity. This journey is aimed at raising the level of prosperity in our dear state through responsible leadership,” Aregbesola said.
He assured members that ongoing efforts to position the group for future success would soon yield results, emphasizing the need to attract like-minded individuals willing to promote good governance in Osun.
APC Dismisses Move as “Good Riddance”
Reacting to the development, the Osun State chapter of the APC dismissed the announcement as inconsequential. In a strongly worded statement, the party’s spokesperson, Chief Kola Olabisi, described the Omoluabi Progressives as “political gangbangers” and “agents of the PDP.”
“The so-called Omoluabi Progressives have long ceased to be members of the APC in spirit and action. Their announcement is nothing but a confused act of political vagabondage,” Olabisi said.
He further accused the group of undermining the APC during the 2022 governorship election and stated that their departure signaled the beginning of their political demise. “This is the imminent beginning of their political funeral, which will culminate in their final burial during the 2026 governorship election,” he declared.
The APC also questioned the logic of suspended or expelled members announcing their resignation, calling it “an example of superfluity.”
While the Omoluabi Progressives position themselves as a new political force, the APC insists it remains strong and focused on reclaiming Osun State in the next election cycle.
