Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have gathered in Jos, Plateau State, to deliberate on governance challenges, party affairs, and national issues. The meeting also included a review of the recently concluded governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, where the party faced defeats.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to delivering good governance through its elected officials. Speaking at the opening session, Mohammed emphasized the PDP’s unity and its enduring role as a political force in Nigeria.
“The PDP remains an indivisible party. Despite minor hiccups, we are united with all organs and leaders of the party. We will continue to work together to provide Nigerians with opportunities for better governance,” Mohammed stated.
Welcoming attendees to Plateau, he commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for hosting the event, describing the state as “a melting pot where everyone is welcome.”
Oyo State Governor and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Seyi Makinde, also addressed the gathering, reassuring party members of the governors’ resolve to reform the PDP and restore its leadership role in national politics.
Attendance and Notable Figures
Governors from Zamfara, Oyo, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Plateau States attended the meeting, while Delta and Enugu States were represented by their deputy governors. Osun, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States were not represented.
Key figures at the Gala Night included Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Governor Kefas Agbu (Taraba), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and PDP Acting National Chairman Illiya Damagum. Other notable attendees were former Plateau Governor Senator Jonah Jang, former Kaduna Governor Ahmed Makarfi, former Niger Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, and Chairman of the PDP Ministers’ Forum, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The meeting underscored the PDP’s determination to strengthen its internal structures, address governance issues, and position itself as a viable alternative for Nigerians.
